From The Rev Jack Lynes
I feel privileged to join your partnership in ministry to serve as your Bridge Senior Minister until your new Pastor and Teacher arrives.
I am a retired Pastor and Teacher of the Church of Jesus Christ in the tradition of the United Church of Christ. I hold a B.A. from Gettysburg College, an M. Div. from Yale University Divinity School, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. During my professional career I have served as a college professor, parish pastor, conference minister, and interim minister. I taught philosophy and religious studies at Wagner College, Staten Island, New York, for fifteen years. I served as Senior Minister for the Community Church of Durham, United Church of Christ, for a little over twelve years. I then served as one of the partner Conference Ministers of the New Hampshire Conference, UCC, for four years before my retirement. Since then I have served as Interim Minister for the First Congregational Church, UCC, in Kittery Point, Maine, and Interim Senior Minister for the First Congregational Church, UCC, in Holliston, Massachusetts. For a time I served as Managing Editor of Prism, a theological journal of the United Church of Christ. An avid ecumenist, I served on the Council for Ecumenism of the UCC and was one of two representatives of the UCC on the Lutheran-Reformed Coordinating Committee (the group that implemented the Formula of Agreement between the UCC, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Reformed Church in America, and the Presbyterian Church U.S.A.).
My wife of 48 years, Kris, and I reside in Kittery, Maine. Before retiring from elementary school teaching after 32 years, she taught in the Oyster River School District for 19 of those years. Our older daughter, Kristin, lives in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Daughter, Meghann, is a junior at the University of New Hampshire, and son, Jack, is a senior at Newburyport High School. Our younger daughter, Kati, lives in Portsmouth with her two sons, Alex (10) and Nick (6).
As a communion of disciples of Christ we are grounded in faith, covenanted in love, sustained by grace, and nurtured by hope. I hope to tap into that rich reservoir for our ministry together in this interim period.
