Mission & Action Committee
Mission is central to the purpose and identity of the church. God has called and commanded us through Christ to love and care for others in our community, state, nation and world. The Mission & Action Committee helps First Parish Church maintain an awareness of needs and a program for working to fulfill those needs. The Committee plans and carries our specific mission projects and programs and provides direction for the church’s expenditure of funds for these purposes. It is our long-term goal as a "Mission" church to have every member of First Parish acutely aware of our church’s mission focus and actions locally, nationally, and globally, and to have each person actively participating in mission projects.
First Parish Church Missions in our country and community are: Our Partnership with Zimbabwe, our relationship with New Life in New York City, our Logos youth program, Thanksgiving Baskets, and White Gifts Program.
Some local programs our First Parish Church is active in supporting are the Dover Food Pantry, Dover Friendly Kitchen, My Friend’s Place, the HUB-Healthy Universal Beginnings, Crossroads, A Safe Place, Dover Adult Learning Center, Strafford Hospice, and ARS - AIDS Response Seacoast.
Our Mission & Action Committee is also active in reaching out to the members of our congregation through our Congregational Care Program. Members of our congregation are provided with the skills and support to visit homebound members.
Our Mission & Action Committee is involved in awarding our First Parish Church Grants each year. These grants are open to any person involved in service and/or continuing their education beyond their high school years.
Those who have served on the Mission & Action Committee have shared and come away with a positive feeling of involvement in local, national, and world needs and an increased awareness of the importance of mission within our church.
If you are interested in responding to Christ’s call to love and serve others with donations of time, suggestions or ideas, or other helpful contributions, please visit the Mission & Action bulletin board in Fellowship Hall, speak to any committee member or e-mail the committee.
Our meeting schedule is the second Tuesday of every month at 7pm in the Conference room.
