                                      Christian Education

“Two disciples heard him and went after Jesus. Jesus looked over his shoulder and said to them, “what are you after?” They said, “Teacher, where are you staying? He replied, “Come and see for yourself” (John 1:37-38 The Message).

Christian Education and Nurture at First Parish is a relational ministry that provides a safe and loving environment for children to grow as “children of God”.

Our teachers are passionate about this call and have been leaders in our teaching ministry for many years. A variety of curriculums move each child through the stages of their faith development. They begin in their younger years of “wonder”, move into the hands on- concrete thinker stage, until the question and doubts eventually move them toward claiming their own belief.

We will do all that we can to offer the opportunities and tools that will grow children of faith and move them towards real Christian discipleship. Come and see!

Sunday School for all Ages and Stages of Faith!

Nursery and Toddlers: Volunteers in these rooms walk, rock, read, and play with the children to insure that they are safe, secure, and content. Our Toddlers hear a bible story too! (Care is available from 8:45 -11:15am)

Preschoolers meet at 8:50 in Nazareth Hall for Sunday school worship then proceed to their classroom for Worship Centers where they hear a story told using a Montessori style teaching method. Preschoolers continue to stay in their room until 11:00 when the morning worship service has ended.

Second through 4th graders come to the first part of the 10 am worship service and are then excused for “E Club”.

5th and 6th Grade - meet at 8:50 in Nazareth Hall for Sunday school worship then proceed to their classrooms to “Gather Round” with their teachers for a story and activity. Our 5th and 6th grade teachers are noted for keeping this group interested and coming back for more. 5th and 6th graders are welcomed into our church service at 10 am, but many volunteer as helpers in our “E Club” program.

7th and 8th Graders and High School Students meet with teachers in the Parish House from 9:00-9:50 every Sunday for conversation about how life connects to the Bible.

Confirmation is offered to students 9th grade and up. This is a yearlong program that involves bible study, learning about Christian practices, and how service and mission can connect us to God in new ways.

Adult classes are offered each Sunday from 9am to 9:50 am.

Our Committee meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 7pm in the Parlor.
